Pink Outliving it

"We must embrace pain and burn it as fuel for our journey."
– Kenji Miyazawa

I celebrated my cancerversary through hiking. Hiking brought me closer to God, my husband and my kids. God gave me strength through hiking. My husband also has been joining me on my hiking journey. He's gained benefits-weight loss, his love for nature grew, his love for me grew, his love for his kids grew, his love for God grew. He's very happy man now. We're also both deaf. Our deafness doesn't stop us from hiking. No barrier in hiking!

My trail name is Pink Outliving it. Here's why:

Pink - My nickname is Pinky and I chose Pink because it's my favorite color. It also represents the color that gets almost invisible and overlooked in the rainbow. Just like in life as a deaf person with chronic illness. I am invisible and overlooked in the majority of population.

Outliving it - I am a cancer survivor that spent years at home dealing with chronic illness and cancer aftermath. I decided to go out and hike. To outlive by not letting cancer and chronic illness take control of my life. To outlive by going out of comfort zone, by going out on hiking adventures. To live my life to the fullest.

I grew up loving nature and hiking with my parents and siblings. When I had my kids, hiking slowed down. When I had Thyroid cancer, hiking stopped for several years. Thyroid cancer gave me several "gifts"-Fibromyalgia, IBS, Hypothyroidism. I also have Intersitital Cystitis.

A year and a-half ago I decided not to let cancer and my diseases rob me of life and my love for nature and hiking. I started up hiking slowly till one year ago, when I started my Instagram account @pink_outliving_it. That's where I found Women Who Hike and that led me to the 52 Hike Challenge. I joined both soon after.
